Abstract


The purpose of this paper is to nwnerically study perfonnance improvement of single-channel secure chaotic optical communications utilizing symmetrical dispersion compensation technique. The decrypted 1.25-Gbits/s non-retum-tozero (NRZ) sequence at the receiver side becomes rather distorting after the transmission of 200-km dispersion shifted fiber. However, the quality of decrypted sequence is significantly improved by allocating dispersion compensation fiber. The results show that the Q-factors of the latter dispersion compensation period are smaller than that of the former ones. This is mainly due to the self-phase modulation (SPM) induced by the nonlinear coefficient of fiber. The results also indicate that the Q-factors increase in different degrees for three sequences of different bit rates
